A Day In The Life Of A Match Secretary

Tony Watson DCAC Match Secretary

Last Sunday our illustrious Match Secretary (or should I say ex-match secretary?), had an absolute Nightmare! Having arranged a match on the river he turned up to find a little bit of extra water in the river and that the water was actually moving. Not used to this (too many hours spent on the carp puddles) he declared some of the best stretches unfishable and pegged the deeper slower water. Of course when the draw was made certain questions were asked, and some Anglers made some very supportive and understanding comments. On top of this Tony drew one of these new better pegs he had just put in. What followed could best be descibed as a Basil Fawlty moment which saw Tony disappear in a different direction to the pegged stretch, whilst declaring in a polite manner that he thought it would be a decnt jesture to let someone else have a go at the job.
He did return sometime later and actually went to his peg to fish. Unfortunately he caught very little, but he did seem to have a problem in the way he was standing trying to fish. I did take a photgraph of him which I am now posting. If you think you can put him right please post your comments

On top of all this Tony lost a vital piece of equipment that day. Can all anglers fishing the DCAC Prebends and Kingsgate stretches, of the river Wear please look out for the following, and let Tony know if it is found or it's whereabouts are known.

Nev is the Captain of our Ship

Nev was so concerned after his run of blanks, that he was determined to catch on the Dutch Tour. For weeks he has been pestering everyone on how he could best catch, and was told by eveyone that "Chucking a Pig" would be the best method to ensure a net of fish. Of course we all presumed that Nev would realise that we were referring to "Feeder Fishing". Obviously from this picture it would seem that Nev had another meaning for this expression.

Does anyone know if Sadie the Bra lady does free fitting, the reason I ask is that F requires a fitting. Recent pictures show he has acquired a reasonable pair of assets, the worst thing is he also likes to feel his own nipples!!!!!! Prior to our trip to Holland, It was rumoured that Bash could have some homosexual tendancies! You can see from the photo's above and left that he certainly owns a feminine brolly, and adopts some very feminine poses. However it was events on the boat that gave us further suspicion, he had already said he was looking forward to sleeping with Dean again, when it appears he decided to have an affair with Mark!
As you can see from the picture below, both were enjoying a very intimate moment.
Is it time Bash came out of the closet?
Or did Mark offer him a good deal on a Pole??

The Pilot Light Goes Out

In a vain attempt to rid themselves of the title of the most boring group to visit Holland, Team Pilot Light accepted the challenge and sent their number 1 star performer into action. Mark Burnip aka "Tuna"(is this because he can drink like a fish? - maybe not) came out for the night with the boys. Although he made a valliant effort, the end result can clearly be seen.

GOING!GOING

GONE!

Mark was not seen for 24 hrs after this, and did not turn out again during the holiday. Could it possibly be that he is also called "Tuna" because in drink he wallows about like a fish out of water, I don't know, lets have your suggestions.

Local Tackle Shop owner Mark Arrowsmith at least proved one thing, he can dance!

On our way over to Holland Mark gave an exemplary display of the big fish-little fish dance, and what a display. The lead member of Team Pilot Light strutted his stuff in the nightclub on the ferry. He even stayed up way past his bedtime, while the other members of his team stayed in to make sure all of the pilot light didn't go out.
All of this without drink as well, what a star!!

On the other hand Nev proved the exact opposite, leaving everyone asking how many have you had. Nev replied 'I couldn't get my moves going, the boat kept on moving', He then went to play snooker when we told him there was a table on deck 9.

Nev ----- No Sir you can't boogie.

A Rude Awakening !!

Our trip to Holland produced a surprising competition, see who can get to sleep first every night.

David Dees won the first night, being in bed at around 10 o'clock on the first night on the ferry. So he was awarded his special prize for the very first night, and looked quite surprised when F delivered it to him !!!!!!!!

I have seen people surprised when they receive the cup, but not that surprised! Maybe it was the water it contained!!

Congratulations David a worthy winner I think everyone will agree. Have you dried out yet?

Nev Continues Record Run!

Nev's unbelievable run continued on Sunday. He blanked AGAIN. Nev also left the river bank early to go home and watch Sunderland play football on Sky(I don't know whether it was better than blanking). So now he is trying to make an excuse by only fishing for half a match. ROLL ON HOLLAND!

Eddie Dundee/Crocodile Ainsley is alive and well and living in Durham. There is only one problem, he has lost the corks for his hat.

After trying to flatten a kerb with his trolley on sunday he realised that his corks on his hat had gone missing. This untimely loss must have cost him badly as he fished for

5 hours and blanked next to the winner.

F joins new band

F (pictured above) would appear to have joined a new band. He seems to have acquired a position playing guitar in a new rock band. His choice of clothes, however leaves a lot to be desired.

F (pictured on the right of the above picture,and also on the right), appears to have lost all fashion sense and has dyed his trademark goatee black to cover the bleach blond it used to be.

One thing i think you will all agree is he seems to have lost weight in that dress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is alleged that Gary Fox today caught a fish, however we have no independant witnesses to confirm or deny these reports. Gary did send a picture to prove his catch however I am sure that this was manufactured, the fish look like they were in sainsbury's or tesco just hours before.

Nev's past came to light when somebody contacted Double Dutch saying they recognised him from the photo's on the website.

Nev In His Acting Days

It would appear that nev first came to fame as the arch enemy of International Rescue in Thunderbirds. Nev's early performances were described as a little wooden.

He did however get rave reviews when he raised £350,000 for charity by shaving off his eyebrows.

Having monitored this situation we have decided to place a blank counter here. This will count exactly how many weeks it is since Nev caught a fish, but it will also predict how many weeks until we expect him to catch one.

Fishing in an Aquarium?

Gaz (pictured above) is off every Friday and recently has been using this time to go fishing on the River Wear in Durham City. Last friday Gaz decided to fish on peg 48 on Prebends, this peg had produced 19 chub a fortnight before, and F weighed 17lb the sunday before so gary arrived full of confidence and duly blanked.

Today Gary decided he would go on the aquarium pegs on Brown's boathouse(nicknamed this because of the number of fish sitting waiting to be caught)

He arrived early to guarantee a peg, setting up and starting on the stickfloat. After a few trots down the float dipped and a fish was on, after a short fight Gaz landed a small Trout. This was only the beginning as he continued with his float and maggot tactics. Ray Fox had 29 chub off the same peg last sunday, and 39 the sunday before, Bearing this in mind it was of no surprise that whenTony phoned Gaz at 1 o'clock he was sitting in the house having blanked again.

It is because of this I am asking should Gaz pack in fishing with his cormorant flavoured maggots, or is he just CRAP.

Please let me know in your comments, if I get enough comments I will post the picture of Gaz with buck teeth and rabbit ears please let me know.

Have you ever felt the urge to get stuck into the decorating at home. If this is the case bear this next story in mind.

Bash(pictured above) has lived in his house for many years and has done the DIY many times, painting and wallpapering were no problem for Bash and he completed them all. Then one day Bashers wife asked him to put some curtains up in the bedroom. No problem thought barry and off he trundled with his tools to start the task. Bash started and got the curtains up in a crack, then, he thought he would score some brownie points and put the hooks in for the tie-backs as well. He started on the left side of the window and had no problem drilling the hole and putting the tieback up. He then moved onto the right side of the window and un-explainably his drill became as accurate as Paul Watson groundbaiting for carp at brasside. 1st one hole then another they were spread far and wide, and at one stage I think Bash was trying to fit a wall tapestry.

Bash then eventually hit the right hole and got the tieback in at the 14th attempt. But what about the holes, He then produced a stroke of genius thinking I'll put the bed in front of them and no-one will know. This is the way it remained until Bash decided to re-decorate and get a professional in. Nev duly arrived and set about decorating almost the entire house. A few days into the job, Nev found the holes behind the bed and felt it necessary to bring this sorry state of affairs into the public domain to highlite the pitfalls of DIY. Nev took a picture then said "I don't know what he was thinking, he might have been drinking or something. He only got 6 of the holes within a foot."

Bash responded to the allegations by saying "The holes were for a shelf I was going to put up. I categorrically deny they were all for tiebacks"

I think you will all agree that this little story is a warning to all budding home improvement stars.

Blender Safety

It's at this time of year that baits like liquidised bread and cheese paste come into there own. A liquidiser or blender could come in very handy, you can pick them up for around a tenner in argos. These electrical items can also come in handy when preparing summer baits such as liquidised sweetcorn and ground pellets . So, I feel it very necessary to point out some crucial safety tips when using liquidisers and blenders to ensure the health and safety of all.

Always ensure the jug is firmly fixed to the base, most blenders will not work unless this is done.
Do not overfill blender. Apart from the risk of content flying into eyes, it makes a horrible mess and the wife will only shout at you (I know)
Always place blender on a level surface.
Ensure correct size fuse is used in the plug.
Most importantly NEVER put your fingers into the blending jug. This is particularly important as someone I know was trying to blend some pellets to make a paste in the summer and got one stuck under the blade. He decided to loosen the pellet with his finger, forgetting that the blender was plugged in and switched on. He managed to loosen the pellet but was fishing with blood flavoured groundbait for a while afterwards. He ended up with some stitches in the end of his finger (OUCH). Fortunately nobody laughed at him for being so silly.

Sweepstakes on the River Wear

We fished on Durham City's stretch of the River Wear in Durham City Centre itself. Only 6 people turned up for our weekly sweepstake but it allowed us to fish what we thought were the best 6 pegs.

We drew pegs and set off for the bankside F(above) drew the flyer and the pressure was on,Bash had bagged the week before catching 19 chub. Tony(below) drew above F, with Phil on the short peg and Nev above him. Steven aka The Winge drew the Christmas Tree and Peter Scott was on the stump.

At 9 o'clock the cathedral chimed and we began with Tony quickly into fish with a chub 1st chuck on the bread. F and Phil quickly connected with chub just as Tony was into his second, and 20 minutes in F,Phil and Tony were beginning to think they were going to empty the river, but bites slowed and chub were becoming a bit of a bonus, but, F and Tony continued picking up odd fish with first Tony catching one and Then F. By now Peter had caught 3 chub from the stump on Lobworm!. With half an hour left F and Tony were level pegging with 5 chub each, then F connected with one on the bread, this was duly netted. F had the fish in his net for about 5 minutes when Tony hit his 6th chub, and so the sweep finished and it was down to the weigh in

F-----------------17lb 3oz
Peter Scott---12lb 3oz

Following this we fished again the following week a further 5 people turned up and having drawn pegs we set off again for the bankside. This was to be a strange match with the eventual winner Peter Fannon(below) struggling at the start before bagging in the second half of the match catching 15 chub on waggler and maggot to finish with a massive 39lb 10oz consisting of 15 chub.

Steven was second with 10lb 7oz of 4 chub and F 3rd with 3 chub for 8lb8oz.

Nev became Durham City AC's most consistent performer with his 3rd blank in as many weeks after drawing the same peg again(you would think he would know where the fish don't live by now).

Mark Arrowsmith fished on the stump and decided he was too good to catch fish in the mouth, so Mark took to lassooing them catching a 5lb chub in the tail using his new lassoo method(he has since said he is waiting for the right offer to patent his method)
